Abstract

In the first quarter of 2013, the replenishment demand for desktop PCs after the Chinese New Year was lower than anticipated, due in large part to branded vendors' early inventory buildup in the end of 2012 and the crowding-out effect of various emerging computing devices. However, the belated launch of Apple's next-generation iMac managed to bolster the industry's shipment volume in the first quarter, saving it from a double-digit percentage sequential decline. As new products equipped with Intel's Haswell are slated for launch in June, branded vendor have gradually reduced pull-in demand in April and May. Along with the diminishing strength of Apple iMac deployment, the industry's shipment volume is expected to have continued to fall sequentially in the second quarter. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that the industry's growth momentum will pick up in the third quarter, showing increase in both shipment volume and value.
